Effective October 12, 2026.
Adam Awake is a personal essay site. There are no ads, no email list, and nothing here is sold or shared for marketing.
Reading
Google Analytics counts visits so the author can see which essays are read, how far, and which footnotes and series links people use. It sets two first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_…) and records things like the page, the referring site, your general location (country and city), and your device and browser type. Google signals is off, so it isn't tied to Google accounts or used for advertising, and the data is kept for 14 months. You can block it with any content blocker or with Google's opt-out add-on.
Cloudflare Web Analytics also counts page views and page speed. It sets no cookies and doesn't track you across sites.
Videos are embedded from youtube-nocookie.com and load only when you press play. Until then, YouTube isn't contacted.
Commenting
When you leave a comment, the site stores your name, your email address if you give one (it's never shown publicly), your comment, your country, your browser type, and a scrambled (salted and hashed) form of your IP address that is used only to limit spam. A Cloudflare Turnstile check runs while you write to keep out bots. Comments are held for moderation before they appear.
To have a comment removed, leave a comment on any post asking for it. Requests like that aren't published.
Changes
If anything here changes, this page will be updated and the date above will change with it.
